Our programme for 2008/9: Bernstein, Brass, and Behold the Sea!

We are friendly, non-auditioning choir with high performance standards. Our new conductor , Gavin Carr, has already made his mark on the choir in two concerts. A Verdi opera gala in June at the Assembly Rooms drew a standing ovation, and in April we sang an ambitious a capella programme of Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Tavener – ‘a packed Abbey enjoyed every minute of this newly enlivened choir’s performance’ (Bath Chronicle).

We’ve got an exciting programme for the next twelve months. On November 22nd in Bath Abbey, two 20 th century American choral masterpieces – Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Morton Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna. On March 21st we have an interesting collaboration with a brass ensemble, with music from Purcell to Rutter. Then on July 11th, 2009, we join forces with the Athenaeum Singers of Warminster and the Mid-Somerset Orchestra to perform Vaughan-Williams’ massive Sea Symphony in Wells Cathedral, all proceeds in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Rehearsals begin on Saturday, September 6 (10.30-12.30), and we welcome new singers in all parts, of whatever standard.
